Chemical Peel Benefits for Skin Texture, Scars & Radiance

What makes a professional chemical peel different from drugstore exfoliants?

This professional-grade treatment combines deep exfoliation with a unique formulation that locks in moisture, boosting hydration, soothing inflammation, and maximizing visible results. Clients from Mount Pleasant, Charleston, and surrounding Lowcountry areas choose this chemical peel for its ability to:

  • Improve uneven skin tone and texture

  • Visibly reduce fine lines and wrinkles

  • Unclog pores and smooth acne-prone skin

  • Soften the look of acne scars and pigmentation

  • Brighten dull skin with no peeling or flaking

This gentle peel can be used on the face, neck, décolleté, and hands. Results are often visible after just one visit, but most clients see the best outcome after a full series of 6 treatments at our Mount Pleasant skin care clinic.

Is a Chemical Peel Right for You?

  • YOU PREFER MINIMALLY INVASIVE TREATMENTS WITH LITTLE TO NO DOWNTIME

Our professional chemical peel is minimally invasive with little to no downtime, making it ideal for busy individuals. The quick procedure allows most patients to resume regular activities shortly after treatment.

  • YOU WANT TO IMPROVE THE TONE AND TEXTURE OF YOUR SKIN

This treatment enhances the skin's overall texture and tone by increasing collagen production while reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It also reduces the appearance of large pores and evens out pigmentation and sun damage, leaving your skin with a more youthful and radiant appearance.

  • YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A TREATMENT SUITABLE FOR ALL SKIN TYPES

This chemical peel is versatile and suitable for everyone, including all Fitzpatrick skin types and sensitive skin. It safely addresses various skin concerns, including acne, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (acne scarring), sun damage, and aging, making it an ideal choice for comprehensive skin regeneration.

  • YOU ARE SEARCHING FOR AN ALTERNATIVE TO LASER TREATMENTS

Professional chemical peels offer a more gentle, accessible option suitable for a wide range of skin types and concerns, including superficial imperfections and overall skin rejuvenation. A combination of Microneedling + Chemical Peel is a more cost-effective approach with significantly less downtime than laser, but with noticeable, cumulative results. This fall, we'll be placing a special focus on this combination as a proven laser alternative.

Pre-Treatment Guidelines

  • Stay out of the sun (artificial or environmental) for a minimum of 72 hours prior to your treatment. Peeling services will not be performed if any redness due to sun exposure is present.

  • Discontinue all use of prescription products including retinoids (such as Retin-A and others), topical acne products, hydroquinone, and chemical exfoliating agents such as AHAs and BHAs, or other medications for 7 days, or as recommended, after review, by your professional.

  • Avoid microdermabrasion, facial waxing, depilatories, electrolysis, or other peeling products or services for at least a week prior to the procedure.

  • If you have a history of Herpes Simplex Virus (cold sores), it is possible for a breakout to surface following treatment. Please mention this to your skin care professional who will direct you to your Primary Care Physician to obtain the recommended antiviral prescription.

Contraindications

  • Active bacterial, viral, fungal, or herpetic infections

  • Open wounds

  • Pre-existing inflammatory dermatosis (i.e., Psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, pemphigus)

  • Skin Cancer, without being cancer-free for a period of 3 years and direct written notice from a physician

  • Pregnancy or currently nursing

  • Recent history of drugs with photosensitizing potential

  • Use of Accutane within the last 12 months

  • Cosmetic surgery of any kind and you are not fully recovered

  • Aspirin Allergy

Post Chemical Peel Care

Following these instructions will maintain your results longer and help you avoid complications.

  • Use a gentle cleanser and cool water. Do not use abrasive cleansers, washcloths, Clarisonic, or hot shower spray for the first 24-48 hours.

Do not use cleansers, serums or spot treatments containing retinol, acids or Benzoyl Peroxide (BPO) for 7 days following treatment.

  • Hydrating and brightening toners applied with a cotton round will penetrate deeper into the skin. If you are sensitive, try all products on a small area before applying to the full face.

  • Active ingredients in serums penetrate much better now, so you'll see quicker results. Please do not use the alcohol or acid forms of Retin-A for 5 days post-treatment. Your Environ products are safe to use starting tomorrow.

  • Choose a hydrating moisturizer and apply twice daily. It’s common for skin to feel tight but dewy to the touch. This is good and will only last a short time. Moisturizer locks in skin’s hydration with the added absorption of its active ingredients.

  • Your skin is more vulnerable to UV rays after exfoliation. A mineral SPF is essential to protect your skin - even on cloudy days when UVA (aging) rays are present. Avoid sun exposure as much as possible. If you must be in the sun, apply and reapply a mineral SPF every 2 hours, wear a hat and seek shade.

  • Makeup can irritate skin after a chemical peel. Bacteria, alcohols, colorants, and fragrance are all irritants that can cause contact dermatitis. Be sure to clean your makeup brushes, replace your sponges, and apply clean (new) makeup to minimize risks.

  • Avoid exposure to excessive heat, heavy workouts, steam rooms, and saunas for 24–48 hours post-treatment.

Wait 7 days before having any facial waxing done.

Stronger Together: Chemical Peels + Microneedling

A professional chemical peel is powerful on its own. But for clients with deeper concerns: acne scarring, stubborn pigmentation, significant texture issues, or early signs of aging, there is a combination protocol that consistently delivers a higher level of results: chemical peels paired with medical microneedling.

The two treatments are designed to complement each other. A chemical peel clears and brightens the skin's surface, accelerating cell turnover to reveal fresher, more even-toned skin underneath. Microneedling goes deeper, creating controlled micro-channels that stimulate collagen and elastin production, remodeling the skin's architecture from within.

Together, they work on every layer of the skin at once: surface clarity from the peel, structural renewal from the microneedling. The result is a compounding improvement over weeks and months that neither treatment could achieve as efficiently on its own.

Common Questions About Professional Chemical Peels

  • A professional chemical peel is a clinical-grade, no-downtime treatment that exfoliates while hydrating the skin with amino acids and vitamins. Unlike over-the-counter products, it uses medical-grade formulations and is applied by a licensed professional, ensuring safe, consistent, and visible results without the harsh flaking or irritation of stronger peels. It's ideal for clients in Mount Pleasant looking for real results without disrupting their routine.

  • Yes. This peel is safe for all skin types, including sensitive, acne-prone, and darker skin tones. It's non-invasive and doesn't cause harsh peeling or post-treatment redness. That's one reason why so many clients from Mount Pleasant and Charleston choose this option over stronger peels.

  • You'll often notice brighter, smoother skin after just one session. For best results, we offer our summer-safe peel as a series of 6 treatments. During your consultation, we'll assess your skin and create a personalized treatment plan.

  • This professional chemical peel is designed to improve uneven tone and texture, clogged or enlarged pores, fine lines and wrinkles, dull or dehydrated skin, mild acne and post-acne scarring, and early signs of sun damage. Many of our Mount Pleasant clients use it as part of a seasonal skin refresh or ongoing maintenance plan to keep their complexion looking clear and radiant.

  • This peel is most commonly used on the face, but it can also treat the neck, décolleté, hands, and shoulders. We offer full customization at our Mount Pleasant skin studio based on your needs and goals.

  • Not in the traditional sense. Most clients experience only mild redness (if any), and there's no visible peeling or flaking like you might get with stronger TCA or glycolic acid peels. You can return to your normal routine right after your visit.

  • Absolutely. This peel can be combined with other treatments like LED light therapy, custom facials, or dermaplaning, depending on your skin type and timing. It's also highly effective when paired with medical microneedling as part of a dual-treatment protocol: a powerful combination we'll be emphasizing this fall as an alternative to laser. We'll go over your options during the consultation at our Mount Pleasant clinic.

  • Post-treatment care is simple and designed to protect your results. You'll want to avoid direct sun exposure for 48–72 hours, use gentle, hydrating skincare products, and apply a mineral SPF daily, even on cloudy days. After your treatment, we'll provide clear written aftercare instructions along with personalized product recommendations to support healing and maintain your glow.

  • All chemical peel treatments are performed by experienced, licensed professionals at our Mount Pleasant location. Samantha Katz, BSN, RN personally oversees all clinical services and will help determine if this treatment is right for you.

  • You can request a consultation by calling/texting us or booking online. We'll start with a one-on-one skin evaluation and create a treatment plan tailored to your goals.
